Saloma is a one year old red cashmere doe, easy to pick out in the herd thanks to a distinctive white spot right between her horns. She's still young and finding her personality, and lately that means deciding that peppermint flavored horse treats are worth coming over for. She's curious and food motivated, the kind of goat who'll check your hands before she checks you out.
This past season was Saloma's first year growing a cashmere coat, and she came through it with a good, dense cover, soft to the touch with nice loft underneath the outer hair. It's a strong first fleece for a young doe, and typically goats fill out and improve their coat each year as they mature, so there's reason to expect even more from her going forward.
Like the rest of our herd, Saloma is raised on silvopasture (a mix of trees and open pasture that lets goats browse the way they naturally want to), and she's trained to both portable electric net fencing and Nofence virtual fencing, a collar based system that keeps her contained without any physical fence at all. She's settled and easygoing with our low management style.
When you bring Saloma home, you'll get a full copy of her health and birth records along with our written herd health plan, so you know exactly what's been done for her and what to expect next. She's also microchipped in her left ear with a small, standardized chip (the kind used nationally for identification and transport), so there's no plastic tag or tattoo involved, just one chip that stays with her for life.
